Kirk Cruz was born in Fresno, California and has studied painting and drawing for over 25 years. He was inspired and encouraged by his father, Gilbert Cruz during his youth to continue the pursuit of Arts. He has studied Oil, Acrylic, Pastels and Pencil. His place of studies have included Fresno State, Fresno City College, South Lake Tahoe College and Clovis Adult School.
He is particularly interested in the study of “Color theory” and how it applies to his newly discovered Ink Art, where he uses a simple poster board and Color Sharpie pens to create his art. His newly found interest in ink art has lead him to developing the “Black” portions of his pictures using only the color pens and never the black colored one. His Color Ink technique has been described like that of an oil painting.
Kirk has Demo-ed his unique ink technique in San Luis Obispo, Cambria, Paso Robles, Fresno, Clovis, Selma, Parlier, Visalia, Madera and Merced. He is currently part of the Madera’s Arts program, as an instructor to the middle school “after school” program. He has provided community service through the Fresno County Libraries to various library branches in the valley.
Kirk’s Art work has been displayed in Clovis’s Wells Fargo bank, Debudio and Defendis Insurance Company, The Fresno Autism Learning Center Headquarters, and the Red Dragon Martial Arts School. He has spoken at the Clovis members Art Guild and the Paso Robles Art Association.
